We would like to share the results of the Round Three Survey on the Social, Economic, and Public Health Impact of Covid-19. The study was conducted amongst 555 respondents living in Nairobi’s low-income areas (i.e. Huruma, Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Kawangware )
The key highlights of the findings are as follows;
- 64% are working ( i.e. formal/self-employment/full- or part-time) in September 2020 and 33% were working in April 2020.
- Although now the employment prospects are better, Only 3% of respondents who had been working before the Covid-19 arrived report now earning with “all” or “most” of what they had been earning then.
- 76% of the respondents indicate that they know someone who has been evicted for non-payment of rent.
- 80% of all respondents say their lives have become “much worse” since the arrival of the Covid-19 virus.
- 40% have received at least one type of assistance from either state or non-state actors/agencies
